Biography

I am the President of Management Mpowerment Associates, a company providing leadership and organizational development, strategic planning and executive coaching to individuals and organizations of all sizes. I work closely with individuals and organizations to bring about positive change through leadership development, emphasizing values, ethics and culture, seeking alignment between individuals and the organization and focusing on results. I push my clients to remain innovative and entrepreneurial in spirit in order to find and maintain a competitive edge in the rapidly-changing competitive marketplace. Entrepreneurs need a trusted advisor who understands what they are going through, and having started and owned multiple businesses over the last twenty five years, I have been through it all- the startup, the acquisition, the cash flow problems, the employee issues.

I find that professional services firms, such as law firms, medical practices and accounting firms need help in the above areas and may not even know it. As an attorney of thirty years, I am quite familiar with the many non-law related issues that can make or break a firm. Thus, this past year I co-founded the Managing Partner Development Institute, an organization designed to educate and develop the managing partners and firm administrators of small and medium size law firms. Its inaugural conference took place on June 1-2, 2007 and was a resounding success. My sessions on leadership, law firm culture and values, dealing with multiple generations, succession planning and strategic planning drew rave reviews.

Another passion of mine is health care. Our system in the US is rife with problems, many based in poor communication and collaboration and unhealthy organizational cultures. I am a Senior Scholar with the Department of Health Policy at Jefferson Medical College. I also partner with two wonderful colleagues, an MD/MBA and an RN/MBA to create meaningful and effective programs for cultural change in healthcare settings. The modules deal with subjects such as collaboration, communication, teambuilding, disruptive behavior and patient safety.

As a business consultant and attorney, I have recently worked extensively in Europe, China and Thailand, on a variety of projects. For example, I have worked with a medical web company developing CME content for Chinese professionals. We took English language CME content, got it approved by the Ministry of Health, and arranged for it to be translated and accessed via the internet. The project was ultimately taken over by Chinese partners. I continue to utilize my legal and business experiences to engage entrepreneurs in focusing on the important issues in their businesses.

I am currently on the Board of Directors of the Main Line Chamber of Commerce, Co-Chair of its Government Affairs Committee and a member of its Healthcare taskforce; a member of the Chester County Board of the Southeastern PA Chapter of the Red Cross; Vice Chairman of the Board of SEPAC, a political action committee dedicated to electing pro-business candidates to office in Pennsylvania and a member of the Pennsylvania Health Lawyers Association.
